In these challenging times, I urge each of you to remain patient and support one another as we navigate this unprecedented natural disaster. Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to address the needs of our community, and we are committed to ensuring that every voice is heard.
While the list of available resources may be limited at the moment, I want to assure you that Governor Kemp is actively working to expand these resources to better serve our community. Please hold on to hope—help is on the way.
I am pleased to announce that the American Red Cross will be providing over 1,700 meals to the community today between 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM. We are incredibly grateful for their support during this difficult time. The meal distribution locations are as follows:
300 Raymonia Apartments
250 Greatest Subdivision (Toombs Street / Lydia Street)
200 Faith Crossing Apartments (Agan Drive, across from the Oaks at Bethany)
100 Grove Apartments
200 Forest Glen Village Apartments
300 Doe Run Apartments
300 Vidalia Village
Additionally, I want to confirm that Parkers Lyons, Fast Break (located near US-1 & 280; please enter from S Washington Street), Dennis Sport Shops, and John Country Junction currently have gas and power available. For those seeking gas at Parkers Lyons, please enter from Highway 280; access from Highway 292 is not permitted.
During emergencies, it is vital that we have access to essential goods and services. Unfortunately, some businesses may take advantage of the situation by engaging in unfair pricing practices. The State of Georgia is committed to protecting its residents. If you suspect price gouging, please report it to the Georgia Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-869-1123 or visit consumer.ga.gov to file a complaint.
We also want to provide a way for those who wish to contribute, including those who may not be from our community but wish to help. If you choose to donate, please visit unitedwaytmw.com/donate and include “TOOMBS STRONG” in the comment box to ensure the funding is directed to the appropriate needs.
We are thankful for the teams who are helping us, and we embody the spirit of “Toombs Strong” when we work together. The way our community has come together during this crisis is a powerful reminder of how much stronger we are when we support our neighbors and each other.
Let us continue to uplift one another and contribute to the solutions that will strengthen our community during this difficult time. Thank you for your resilience and support.
We look forward to providing more updates this evening, and we are deeply grateful to all those working tirelessly to assist our City and County. Your patience is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Willis D. NeSmith
Mayor
